On 3 October 2024, ST Engineering announced that its Commercial Aerospace division has successfully obtained a 15-year exclusive maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) contract with Akasa Air, the fastest-growing airline in India, to provide MRO solutions for the LEAP-1B engines powering its Boeing 737 MAX fleet.

As part of the agreement, ST Engineering will provide Akasa Air with the first Performance Restoration Shop Visit (PRSV) service for their LEAP-1B engines at its aerospace facility in Singapore. This collaboration encompasses Akasa Air’s existing fleet of 25 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, as well as the additional 201 planes set to be received over the next eight years. Recently enhanced with its LEAP-1B engine test capability and increased LEAP engine MRO capacity, ST Engineering aims to provide seamless MRO services to help airlines like Akasa Air in achieving long-term growth and operational efficiency.

In a recent press release from ST Engineering, Tay Eng Guan, SVP/Head of Engine Services at ST Engineering, stated that the company’s new partnership with Akasa Air demonstrates the strong confidence in their expertise and capability to serve as a reliable long-term partner.

“This milestone partnership also underlines our growing support for the LEAP-1B engines, and our commitment to help airlines focus on their operations and business growth while we maintain their engines.”, Mr Tay added.

Daniel Saldanha, Vice President of Maintenance and Engineering at Akasa Air, also expressed excitement and confidence in partnering with ST Engineering as the MRO solutions provider for the first PRSV service for all their engines. “This partnership reinforces our focus on operational efficiency and is a testament to our commitment towards delivering the highest standards of safety and reliability in global aviation,” said Mr Daniel.

ST Engineering was the first independent MRO provider in Asia to join CFM International’s LEAP open MRO ecosystem under a CFM Branded Service Agreement in 2023. Recently, its Commercial Aerospace division has developed testing capabilities for LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B engines at its facility in Singapore and is now working to expand its capabilities to incorporate LEAP PRSV.
