National Civil Aviation Agency Director Shares Insights on Past, Present, and Future of Aviation at Embry-Riddle Asia

On April 19th, 2023, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Asia Campus in Singapore had the honor of welcoming General Luiz de Souza Nascimento, the Director of Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Agency. The Director shared his extensive experience in the aviation industry, discussing the past, present, and future of aviation. His visit was not only very beneficial for the student, but for the director himself as well, as stated in his linkedIn post, “They (students) expect us older people to have a lot to say, but they have no idea what it is like to learn by “listening” to the younger ones!” – General Nascimento.

The visit was part of the university’s ongoing efforts to provide students with opportunities to learn from industry experts and gain insights into the latest trends and developments in the field of aviation.

During his talk, Director Nascimento shared his journey in the aviation industry, with more than 35 years of experience in the aviation industry, working as an Attack Pilot on Rotary Wings and as an Inspector Pilot in the Special Flight Inspection Group (GEIV). He spoke about his experiences and challenges throughout his career, highlighting the importance of perseverance and hard work in achieving success.

Director Nascimento also discussed the current state of the aviation industry, emphasizing the need for continued innovation and investment in technology. He highlighted the importance of safety and security in aviation, and the challenges faced by regulators in ensuring compliance with international standards.

Looking towards the future, Director Nascimento shared his insights on the potential of emerging technologies such as electric and autonomous aircraft. He emphasized the need for collaboration between industry stakeholders, governments, and regulatory bodies to ensure the safe and efficient implementation of these technologies.

Finally, Director Nascimento left the students with a valuable piece of advice: networking is one of the most important assets for success in the aviation industry.
