On 5th February, Airbus and Singapore’s Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) proudly announced the successful completion of a pioneering HTeaming flight campaign at a Singapore airbase. This flight demonstration represents the very first time HTeaming has been utilised with an Airbus Flexrotor uncrewed aerial system (UAS) and the Republic of Singapore Air Force’s (RSAF) H225M helicopter.
This initiative is a result of an agreement signed in June last year, where both partners aimed to explore how crewed-uncrewed teaming can improve situational awareness and mission outcomes through a flight demonstration campaign. Trials conducted in January showed that a crewed helicopter can effectively and securely gather real-time data from an Unmanned Aerial System (UAS), significantly enhancing the aircraft’s visual range and mission safety. To showcase this capability, the H225M and Flexrotor collaborated in a search and rescue operation, providing improved situational awareness.

As part of the collaboration, Airbus designed the HTeaming system and managed its incorporation into the H225M, which included specialised data-link architectures. This integration allowed the helicopter crew to process real-time data from the Flexrotor while retaining control of the UAS, enhancing rapid decision-making and mission execution while reducing the crew’s exposure to high-risk environments.
Mr Ang Jer Meng, Director Air Systems at DSTA, commented that the successful flight demonstration reflects DSTA’s commitment to innovation and collaboration with the industry in delivering cutting-edge solutions.
“It marks a positive step forward in teaming capabilities to enhance the RSAF’s mission effectiveness, while ensuring human decision-making remains at the centre of operations. This achievement gives us confidence to move further to redefine the boundaries of what’s possible for more dynamic operations,” he added.
Mr Olivier Michalon, Executive Vice President of Global Business at Airbus Helicopters, highlighted the strengths of the platforms in enhancing air commanders’ situational awareness during complex, high-risk missions.
“The successful teaming is a game-changer for modern tactical operations. This flight campaign fully illustrates the ability to exploit dual-use technologies to support secure operations,” said Mr Olivier.

Airbus HTeaming is a brand new modular crewed-uncrewed teaming solution compatible across the entire Airbus helicopter range. It integrates various uncrewed platforms, allowing crews to control different UAS in flight for specific missions requirements.
The Flexrotor is a modern Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL) uncrewed aircraft, with a launch weight of 25 kg, designed for ISTAR missions lasting more than 12-14 hours and 10 hours in EMSA configuration. It can accommodate various payloads, including electro-optical systems and advanced sensors, for specific mission needs. It autonomously launches and recovers from land or sea, needing only a 3.7 by 3.7 m area, making it suitable for expeditionary missions with a minimal footprint.
