On 1 April 2026, the Singapore Government established the National Space Agency of Singapore (NSAS), a new space agency dedicated to furthering Singapore’s national space ambitions to be a leader in space technologies and contribute to the global space ecosystem.
The establishment of NSAS was officially announced by Dr Tan See Leng, Minister for Manpower and Minister-in-charge of Energy and Science & Technology in the Ministry of Trade and Industry, at the inaugural Space Summit 2026, held from 2 to 3 February 2026 at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Marina Bay Sands.
Space technologies play a key role in supporting Singapore’s highly connected economy, with sectors such as digital connectivity and maritime monitoring relying heavily on space capabilities. Singapore is also home to roughly 70 space companies which employ about 2,000 professionals in various roles, from designing and manufacturing of space components to providing satellite-base services.
NSAS will lead Singapore’s efforts to fully capture opportunities created by the fast-growing global space economy, which is projected to reach US$1.8 trillion by 2035. NSAS will take over and build upon the role of the previous Office of Space Technology & Industry, Singapore (OSTIn), aiming to strengthen Singapore’s R&D ecosystem, develop Singapore’s space industry and advance international partnerships. Additionally, NSAS will help develop and operate Singapore’s national space capabilities and develop legislation and regulations to support innovation and business growth, whilst upholding space safety and sustainability standards.
Establishing the NSAS demonstrates Singapore’s commitment to becoming a leader in space technologies and services, by leverage Singapore’s strategic location, technological strengths, and business-friendly environment to seize opportunities created by the growing global space economy.
NSAS is led by its Chief Executive, Ms Ngiam Le Na, who previously served as Deputy Chief Officer at DSO National Laboratories. She has also held various senior appointments in the public service previously, including positions at the Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA), and currently serves on the Board of PUB.
