Over the March term break, students from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) Asia had the opportunity to visit Allen Aircraft Radio’s (AAR) component repair facility in Chonburi, Thailand. For someone like me who is always curious about what happens behind the scenes in aircraft maintenance, this visit offered me a valuable glimpse into real-world operations.
We were warmly welcomed by the AAR Thailand team, who guided us through various sections of the facility. Seeing components being disassembled, repaired, and reassembled in person was a completely different experience from learning about it in the classroom.
The team also shared insights into quality assurance, engineering processes, and how they manage turnaround times for airline clients across the region. It was inspiring to witness the scale of operations and the pride the staff take in their work. One key takeaway was how AAR successfully balances operational efficiency with customer satisfaction. A big thank you to the AAR team for their hospitality. I left with a deeper appreciation for aircraft safety and a renewed motivation to pursue a career in this field.

During the trip, we also visited the Boeing 747 Café, a retired jumbo jet transformed into a stylish café. It was surreal to sip coffee inside an actual Boeing 747, with access to the upper deck and even the cockpit. The blend of aviation nostalgia and modern design made it a truly unforgettable experience.

We wrapped up our trip with a visit to the Royal Thai Air Force Museum in Don Mueang. The museum features a diverse collection of historic aircraft, from fighter jets and helicopters to military transport planes. Walking among these well-preserved aircraft offered a fascinating glimpse into Thailand’s aviation history and the evolution of military aviation in the region.
