Saab, Thales, and ST Engineering Partner to Innovate Singapore’s Air Traffic Management Infrastructure

  • 25 Nov 2024

Saab, Thales, and ST Engineering have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support the long-term innovation and modernisation of Singapore’s Air Traffic Management (ATM) infrastructure. The partnership, focused on Singapore, was formalised on 20 November during the Sweden-Singapore Royal Business Forum. The aim is to establish a robust industrial framework that utilises global products and services.

The collaboration will integrate technologies from Saab and Thales, combined with the local expertise of ST Engineering’s Mission Software and Services. Together, the companies will provide seamless support across all phases of ATM, from en route operations to gate management. Saab will contribute its fully integrated automation and Digital Tower Suite, known as i-DTS, which combines the Advanced Surface Movement Guidance & Control System and Digital Tower functionality in a single solution. The integrated Advanced Surface Movement Guidance & Control System provides surveillance and more efficiency of the airport’s surface and of aircraft on approach.

Saab’s Digital Tower Suite enables enhanced visual situational awareness for any type of airport, from any location, with the flexibility to deliver services on-demand for multiple airports. It also enhances  a controller’s ability to manage airport traffic in all visibility and weather conditions.

Through this partnership, Saab, Thales, and ST Engineering aim to set a new global standard in ATM technology. The collaboration also holds the potential to extend beyond Singapore, with the possibility to expand this model to other regions worldwide.

In a recent media release, Per Ahl, Head of Saab Digital Air Traffic Solutions commented, “This initiative shows our joint industrial commitment to Singapore, and that we are working pro-actively to reduce time and implementation risks in the introduction of the next generation of ATM technologies in Singapore.”
