ST Engineering held a groundbreaking ceremony for its third aircraft maintenance hangar in the United States at the Pensacola International Airport on 4th June 2024.

The new state-of-the-art hangar, spanning 167,000 square feet, will be equipped with two bays that are capable of servicing widebody aircraft. The facility is also expected to contribute an additional 500,000 manhours annually when it is fully operational in the second half of 2026.

This new hangar marks a significant milestone in ST’s Engineering’s growth and expansion plans in Pensacola, joining its other airframe MRO facilities in Mobile, Alabama and San Antonio, Texas. Currently, ST Engineering also operates a nacelle manufacturing and MRO facility in Middle River, Maryland, and offers aircraft engine washes through EcoServices in Wethersfield, Connecticut.

In the media release, Pensacola Mayor D.C. Reeves mentioned that “The new hangar will contribute significant economic benefits for Pensacola and the surrounding region through the creation of quality jobs and increased demand for goods and services.”

“Our expansion in Pensacola aligns with the Group’s commitment to invest in its core business and is poised to strengthen our aerospace MRO network in the U.S. and globally.” said Timothy McBride, ST Engineering North America President.

Jeffrey Lam, President Commercial Aerospace of ST Engineering, also stated that, “We continue to look to the future with the construction of our third hangar in Pensacola that will expand our airframe MRO capacity, allowing us to better meet our customers’ growing maintenance needs, drive business growth and strengthen our presence in the region.”

In its efforts to boost environmental sustainability and reduce hangar carbon footprint, ST Engineering has partnered with Florida Power & Light (FPL) to support the hangars’ energy needs. ST Engineering’s Pensacola hangars will be receiving renewable energy from FPL’s offsite solar farm through FPL’s SolarTogether® program. The hangars will also utilize eco-friendly and smart technologies such as light harvesting skylights and integrated vertical lift machines for improved efficiency.

The new facility is part of ST Engineering’s planned MRO complex project in Pensacola, which will comprise of four hangar facilities, and is anticipated to generate over 1,700 jobs in Pensacola upon full completion.
